BULAN PARISH CHURCH NOW A LOCAL CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL TREASURE

11/04/19 BULAN, Sorsogon - The Sangguniang Bayan of Bulan has approved today a resolution declaring the Immaculate Conception Parish Church and its ground as a local cultural and historical treasure in the Municipality of Bulan, Sorsogon.

The resolution was sponsored by heritage advocate Bulan Councilor Olaf Gotladera to protect and preserve the rich historic urban landscape of Bulan as the premier heritage destination in the province of Sorsogon.

The restoration of the iconic Bulan Presidencia, the presence of War Tunnels and air raid Shelters, and the Spanish-era Immaculate Conception Parish Church would bode well for cultural and historical preservation and conservation efforts.

Gotladera said that as a local cultural and historical treasure, the Immaculate Conception Parish Church would now be able to get support from the heritage conservation agencies.

The Bulan Parish Church was built in 1866 and has been part of the tangible (i.e. baroque design) and intangible heritage (i.e. Holy Week procession, Marian devotions, and other Catholic religious activities) of the people of Bulan.

  2. I am no longer a Roman Catholic but I still feel the need to preserve a town's heritage. I would even wish if the Convento were we learned our 1st Alphabets, the Caton under Maestra Miguela was still there. Sometimes we could modernize our buildings but we can still preserve the things of the past. This could only be made possible if we connect both the future and the past in our present time. The memory of the past wouldn't hurt the NOW. Instead the future could one day look back how Bulan had passed the test of time if we would keep the history of our town. "Let the stones cry out." Yes let the old edifices remain or much better yet let them tell the story of Bulan.
